Breast Biopsy
A biopsy involves gathering cells from a specific area for microscopic examination. While traditional biopsy methods need surgery, advancements in medicine have introduced minimally invasive image-guided needle biopsy techniques. These procedures carry a low risk of complications and provide a more accessible and less invasive means of obtaining tissue samples for thorough microscopic study.
What type of biopsies are offered at IMI?
A medical procedure used to get tissue samples from the breast for further examination, ultrasound guided breast biopsies are typically needed when an abnormality has been detected during a mammogram or ultrasound.
When a mammogram shows something suspicious, a stereotactic breast biopsy allows us to take X-ray images and guide a needle to the exact spot in the breast to collect tissue samples.
